英文原文
Thin golden petals drifted down from the osmanthus trees,
carrying sweet faint fragrance
through the winding old alley.
I walked slowly under the overhanging branches,
breathing in the warm autumn air
that wrapped around every brick and tile.
An elderly woman stood beside a wooden door,
holding a small bamboo basket in her hands,
collecting fallen flowers gently.
She brushed the petals off her sleeve,
and turned her eyes toward me
with a soft and peaceful smile.
She told me she planted these osmanthus trees
together with her sister, decades ago.
When autumn came every year,
they would gather flowers side by side,
and make sweet osmanthus syrup.
Her sister moved far away many years ago,
and seldom had the chance to come back.
But every autumn,
the trees still bloomed as they once did,
pouring out the same sweet scent.
She said she still keeps making the syrup,
even if no longer shared together.
When the wind blows and flowers fall,
she feels her sister is still near,
standing beside her in the fragrant alley.
A light gust swirled more petals in the air,
spinning them down onto the stone pavement.
The sun filtered through the leaves,
casting dappled spots upon the ground.
She put a handful of golden blossoms
into my open palm.
Memories do not need to be held tightly.
They float in scent,
and linger within the quiet old lane.
I walked forward deeper into the alley,
the sweet fragrance following my steps.
Some bonds will never break with distance.
They bloom each year,
hidden in the gentle breath of autumn.
