Music, then, being the typical, or perfect, art,
since all art constantly aspires towards the condition of music,
we may well inquire what that condition essentially is.
All other arts are chained to particular materials,
to fixed forms, to visible and tangible substances.
Painter and sculptor work upon stone and colour,
confined to the limits of space and physical shape.
Poetry is bound to language,
to the burden of definite meaning and logical thought.
Architecture is restricted by utility and structural law.
Each art carries the weight of external restriction,
of concrete definition,
of worldly limitation.
Music alone escapes such bondage.
It has no necessary connection with visible reality,
no obligation to narrate events,
no duty to explain morals or deliver instruction.
It floats free from the restrictions of the material world.
It exists in pure rhythm, pure harmony, pure motion.
It is a form of art in which form and substance are one and inseparable.
What music is, it is entirely through its own inner law,
not through external reference or worldly attachment.
In all other artistic creations,
we distinguish between the outer form and the inner meaning.
We see a painting and interpret its story;
we read a poem and analyze its thought;
we admire a building and acknowledge its practical purpose.
Form is merely a vessel for content,
a shell containing separate significance.
But in music,
form is no longer a mere container.
The rhythm, the melody, the harmony themselves are the meaning.
There is no hidden moral lesson behind the sound,
no hidden narrative waiting to be uncovered.
The beauty resides exactly within the flowing movement of sound itself.
This unique state of freedom explains why all arts strive toward music.
Every painter seeks rhythmic balance in composition,
every poet pursues musical cadence in language,
every sculptor chases fluent harmony in solid stone.
All artists attempt to shake off the heaviness of material reality,
to transcend fixed definition,
to reach that pure state where form and spirit merge completely.
Music achieves this perfect integration naturally and completely.
It is the only art in which expression and existence are identical.
Human emotion is often vague, subtle, indefinable.
Ordinary language is too rigid, too precise, too limited
to capture the delicate fluctuation of the human soul.
Words fix feelings into definite ideas,
and in fixing them, they simplify and distort them.
Music, by contrast, matches the ambiguity of inner life.
It does not define, it suggests;
it does not explain, it resonates;
it does not confine, it liberates.
It gives voice to those shadowy, half-formed feelings
which ordinary speech can never fully express.
Music accompanies every stage of human existence.
It softens sorrow, tempers joy, calms anxiety,
and elevates the trivial moments of daily life.
It does not depend on specific stories or scenes to move the heart.
Its power originates from pure spiritual correspondence.
It bridges the gap between individual souls,
transcending age, region, language and culture.
People of different backgrounds may misunderstand each other’s words,
but they can always feel the same vibration of the soul through music.
Therefore, music is not merely one branch of art among many.
It is the ultimate ideal and highest state of all art forms.
It reveals the hidden truth of aesthetics:
the highest beauty is free beauty,
liberated from material restraint and external purpose.
All worldly art constantly moves toward this musical perfection,
constantly trying to free itself from the bondage of matter, logic and utility.
In this endless pursuit of pure form and pure spirit,
art finds its most profound meaning and eternal value.
观赏画作,我们解读画面背后的故事;
品读诗歌,我们剖析文字承载的思想;
它不定义情绪,只含蓄暗示;
不刻意阐释,只灵魂共鸣;

依附物质、捆绑功利、受制于现实规则;
打破大众对音乐的浅层认知;
