who were always mean and unreasonable.
From the moment the family was reunited,
the peaceful life of the little girl was completely destroyed.
She was no longer the cherished child of the family,
but became the servant of the whole house.
She was forced to give up her clean and beautiful clothes,
and put on old, tattered grey rags.
She had no warm bed to rest in,
but slept on the cold floor beside the fireplace.
Because she often rolled in the ashes and cinders of the stove,
covered with dust and dirt all day long,
the family mocked her ruthlessly
and gave her the ugly name Cinderella.
Day after day,
she endured endless labor and unfair treatment.
She got up before dawn every morning,
to fetch water, make a fire, cook meals and clean the whole house.
All the heavy and tiring housework fell on her thin shoulders,
while her stepsisters dressed up casually,
enjoying ease and comfort without any toil.
She endured harsh words and cold stares every day,
never arguing or complaining bitterly.
Even in the darkest and most humble days,
she still kept the soft kindness deep in her heart.
She treated every living creature gently,
caressed the little birds outside the window,
and warmed every trivial thing around her with sincerity.
One day,
the king of the country held a grand palace ball,
in order to select a virtuous and elegant girl
for his eldest son.
All the young girls in the village received the invitation,
including Cinderella’s two proud stepsisters.
The two sisters were overjoyed,
and they hurried to choose gorgeous dresses
and delicate ornaments for the ball.
They shouted and ordered Cinderella
to comb their hair and polish their shoes,
and kept criticizing and abusing her impatiently.
When Cinderella expressed her wish to attend the ball,
her stepmother sneered at her humble identity.
She said coldly that dirty maids were not qualified
to appear in the noble palace ball,
and threw more heavy work on her,
wanting to completely crush her trivial hope.
Watching the gorgeous figures of her sisters leaving happily,
Cinderella stood alone in the desolate yard,
bursting into silent tears.
She was not crying for luxurious dresses or noble status,
