In the deepest waters of the ocean stood the magnificent palace of the Sea King.
Its walls were built of bright coral,
and its tall windows were made of transparent amber.
The roof was covered with layered seashells,
which opened and closed gently with the flowing seawater.
Every shell held a shining pearl,
precious enough to decorate a royal crown.
The Sea King had six beautiful mermaid daughters.
The youngest princess was the most gentle and sensitive among them.
She had fair skin and bright blue eyes,
and she loved quiet meditation more than noisy games.
Unlike her sisters,
she was curious about the unknown human world on the sea surface.
Grandmother mermaid often told them stories of human beings.
She said humans had a short mortal life,
while mermaids could live for three hundred years beneath the sea.
Yet humans possessed an eternal soul that mermaids could never own.
This mysterious difference deeply touched the little mermaid’s heart.
She was forbidden to rise to the sea surface
until she turned fifteen years old.
During her long waiting years,
she spent much time staring upward through the seawater.
She dreamed of seeing the colorful world above the waves,
of watching the shining stars and splendid human ships.
On her fifteenth birthday,
the little mermaid finally swam quietly to the sea level.
The night was soft and beautiful.
A grand decorated ship floated steadily on the calm ocean.
Colorful lanterns lit every corner of the deck.
Melodious songs and joyful laughter drifted across the water.
She hid herself behind the ship’s broad hull
and watched the crowd on board silently.
In the center stood a young and handsome prince.
He had bright eyes and gentle manners.
His elegant appearance made the little mermaid fascinated at first sight.
Suddenly, violent winds swept over the sea.
Dark waves rolled up and overturned the luxurious ship.
The roaring storm scattered sailors and decorations everywhere.
The prince fell into the rough seawater,
losing consciousness in the violent waves.
The little mermaid swam forward bravely through the storm.
She held the unconscious prince tightly above the water.
She fought against fierce currents and cold waves,
carrying him steadily toward a quiet sandy shore.
She laid the prince gently on the warm beach.
She kissed his forehead softly with sincere affection.
When she heard approaching footsteps from the distance,
she hid herself behind the rocks shyly.
A young maiden found the prince and woke him up.
